My name is Melissa Bragg and I am Richmond Hill Elementary School's Counselor. I was educated at Flagler College where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I also attended Georgia Southern University where I earned Master of Education and Educational Specialist degrees in Counselor Education.

My certifications include Pre-kindergarten through grade 12 School Counseling and National Certified Counselor (NCC). I hold active memberships in the Georgia School Counselor Association (GSCA), American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE). These memberships allow me to interact with other educators to stay current with issues that are important to our students and parents.

What is a School Counselor?

A school counselor is a certified, trained and caring professional who works with all students, parents, teachers, staff and the community, in order for each student to be successful academically and socially. School Counseling services are delivered in three specific ways:

  1. School Guidance Curriculum - designing, structuring, and delivering classroom lessons designed to achieve specific competencies in all grades (personal/social, academic, career) and driven by the needs of the school population.
  2. Responsive Services – meeting immediate student needs (individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, referral, information-providing).
  3. System Support - school wide program planning and implementation (PBIS, Leadership Teaming, etc.), consulting with other professionals, coordination of various supports for students and families.
